One of the first things you do when you become a webcam model is set up your profile. Within this process of creating your onscreen persona, it’s important to consider your niche and what kind of model you are. After all, everyone has a fetish – whether it’s watching people eat on camera or taking part in sploshing! Sometimes the only way these kinks can be satisfied for users is by watching webcam models! The more kinks you can cater to, the more money you can make.
In today’s blog, the team at Off The Record – a leading webcam model management agency in the UK, are sharing our guide to selecting your niche. Over the last few years, we have supported and mentored hundreds of women who wanted to become a webcam model. Our knowledge of the industry comes from our team of experienced camgirls who now want to help others. We spoke to a number of our most successful camgirls to find out their top tips on selecting your niche.
1. Do your research.
You will be surprised at the wide variety of kinks and fetishes that are out there. Some of which don’t involve sexual performances at all. Take showing off your feet or blowing up balloons as an example. These are both kinks that a number of people enjoy but don’t involve you being nude. To begin defining your webcam niche, we would recommend researching into the range of kinks and fetishes people enjoy. Make a list of all the ones you feel could work for you and find out what equipment (if any) you would need for them.
2. Experiment with different niches.
When you’re starting out as a new camgirl, you have the freedom to experiment with any kink or fetish your audience may enjoy. Our camgirl, Sofia Sanctuary told us: “When I became a webcam model, I knew nothing about the industry or the number of niches that are out there. I was just myself with the extra kinky side, which is often called the girlfriend experience (GFE) in camming. Over the last few years and with plenty of requests from different viewers, I have tried different things and found some kinks I am happy with and others that are just not suited to me. That’s the beauty of cam, it’s so versatile! I am very intrigued by different fetishes and how differently people perceive them so I do like to try everything once, within reason.”
3. Choose a kink you’re comfortable with.
As with everything you do in life, it’s important to love and enjoy what you do! If you don’t enjoy the kink or fetish you’re taking part in, the viewer also won’t enjoy it. It’s important to choose a niche you enjoy and feel at ease doing on a webcam. Here is what our camgirl, Camilla West said about choosing a niche you’re comfortable with: “In my opinion, you can’t just randomly pick a typically popular niche and decide that’s what you want to do. You need to find what’s right for you and what you’re comfortable with. By all means, try out different niches but you’ll need to do a bit of research. If it’s not coming naturally to you it’s probably not going to work. Viewers can tell if you’re not really into something or if you’re not comfortable.
My advice would be to lean towards the niches that are more natural to you. I know girls who are super kinky dommes who make a lot of money but I also know girls who are strictly GFE and make just as much. You can make mega bucks whatever your niche is. Plus, you will have much more fun doing so if it’s something you genuinely enjoy! So, don’t push yourself to be something you’re not just for the money. You’ll be much happier and much more successful if you specialise in something you actually like and enjoy!”
