Whether it’s a lack of physical contact with family and friends or a shortage of products available at the supermarket, the outbreak of COVID-19 has presented us, as a nation, with a lot of challenges. However, these problems pale in comparison when looking at the rise in domestic and child abuse that has occurred as a result of the current lockdown situation. Due to families being stuck in their homes with abusive relatives, a number of helplines have reported a surge in calls. In fact, the National Domestic Abuse helpline has seen a 25% increase in calls and online requests since March.
After hearing the awful news about increased domestic violence, the founders at Off The Record Models knew they had to do something to help those in need. Unsurprisingly, many charities around the world are experiencing a lack of fundraising during this time while people’s focus turns elsewhere and they look to protect their own finances for future months. Therefore, Off The Record Models has decided to donate £1,000 of our profits this month to Refuge.
Refuge is a charity based in the United Kingdom, which provides support to women and children experiencing domestic violence. They provide a range of services including emergency accommodation, community outreach projects, independent advocacy and a 24-hour helpline. It is the largest domestic violence charity in the UK – helping to support over 3,000 women and children on a normal day. Given the current situation, we cannot imagine the amount of support they are providing and we hope our money will go some way to supporting those that really need it at this time.
The Refuge charity is something extremely important to everyone at OTR – not only is it close to our founders’ hearts, but our models too. One of our core values as a webcam model management agency is about empowering and liberating women. For over three years, the team at Off The Record have supported and mentored women from all backgrounds to start a career where they can gain financial freedom and flexibility. Alongside our team of experienced models providing advice, we also offer a safe, community group chat so our webcam models have 24/7 access to help and support.
If you’re currently at home with abusive relatives or a partner and need to speak to someone, Refuge offers a free 24-hour helpline on 0808 2000 247.
